Prayer Walking in Dartford
We believe... There is a God in Heaven who loves us more than we can possibly imagine, who deserves to be given first place in our lives and who loves to answer prayer.
He said "If you look for me, you will find me."
We believe we should be a church who serves you, the local community, in any way we can, and we pray for you every week.
What is Prayer Walking?
I thought it might be helpful to explain a little of what we do when we go out and visit one of the roads in the parish each month.
As Christians we are called to be and to make Disciples of Christ. We fulfil at least some of this within the family of Christ Church.
However, many of us feel compelled by God to look outwards to the community encompassed by the parish and beyond, and believe that some of our efforts should be directed towards those who don’t feel "part" of the Christ Church family, for whatever reason.
So, one Saturday of most months a group of us visit the homes of a particular road in the parish. On the last Sunday of the month, we offer up the prayer requests at the morning service.
The week before each road is visited, cards are dropped through the letterboxes explaining that we will be calling and that we would be happy to talk and pray with our neighbours if they are in.
Obviously we get all sorts of receptions from those who open the doors!
There are those who "aren't interested" and shut the door quickly; those who say they have nothing to pray for; those who "don't believe"; those who think we are "bloomin" Jehovah's Witnesses(aargh!!).
But for every one who thinks they have no need of prayer, there are several who want to give thanks for their families, neighbours and friends; for their health and wellbeing; for our visit; to ask for healing for themselves or others; for world peace; for more unity and understanding amongst faiths and denominations; for help with family
problems; for success in exams.... the list is, seemingly endless.
Prayer walking is an excellent way of serving God, who showers us, His children, with so many blessings, and to give thanks for those blessings and share the wonderful news of our faith with others. |
